Verdict

This has cut up badly from a strong original entry. Dermot Weld runs two and Pat Smullen is on board Mutadhamen, who was a 20/1 chance on his opening run on heavy ground at the Curragh and finished mid-division. He's presumably the stable choice over Rank, who looked very inexperienced on his debut at Navan in October. With their stable still in flying form neither can be dismissed though THE HAPPY PRINCE has to be the selection. The son of Rip Van Winkle led for much of the way before succumbing a furlong out and finishing fifth behind stablemate Royal Navy Ship at the Curragh in October. Aidan O'Brien has had some upsets already this season so taking a short price doesn't look an option though he looks the one to be on. Gussy Goose had some useful form in her first campaign but didn't impress on her reappearance at the Curragh and newcomer Pure Drama has plenty to do.
