In depth

Verdict

In a tricky maiden, Alaghiraar is selected ahead of King Joshua and Longspur. Do not be surprised to see Alaghiraar improve for the step up in trip this season, the John Dunlop-trained colt not having been beaten far despite having finished twelfth on his Newmarket seven-furlong debut. The 200,000 dollars purchase Daweyrr is surely better than his Chepstow debut might suggest, while Dig Gold was disappointing at Haydock last time but would hold claims based on his debut run here, which came on good to firm, although that going might suit him better. Earl Marshal showed improvement last time to finish second at Yarmouth on soft going, although he did not look a straightforward ride there, while King Joshua is pretty exposed now but, with form rating in the mid-70s, cannot be ruled out and the Godolphin newcomer Longspur is certainly one to give some thought to also. Ridge Rose is very well-bred but showed little on her Pontefract debut on soft, but stablemate Scripted showed enough on his Newmarket debut to be given some thought. All in all, not the easiest race to assess with Alaghiraar getting a tentative nomination.
