Verdict

A low grade handicap to end proceedings at Oadby, but several in-form sprinters to choose from. Guns Blazing and Devon Flame come here in cracking form and the latter is chasing a hat-tricks, while Pinchbeck and Sewmuch Character also have strong claims, but the one to be with is Twilight Mistress, who is basically a winner without a penalty. Being in-foal to Bold Edge has certainly done her no harm as she looked to turn in a personal best at Newmarket last week, when just losing out in the shadow of the post to one-time Group horse Proud Native, in what was a fast run race. The form has already been given a boost by Brigadore, who won at Ayr earlier in the week and she looks the one to beat. Pinchbeck has been rejuvenated by the fitting of blinkers of late, but they are left off here in favour of the sheepskin cheekpieces. While he goes on fast ground, there is a suspicion he is better suited by some give underfoot. Devon Flame is certainly on the upgrade and defied a 10lbs hike in the weights in fine style at Windsor, beating a useful yardstick in Toppling. Although 7lbs higher here, it would be dangerous to dismiss him. Vicky Haig has placed Guns Blazing well of late, picking up three of his last four races. However, he has done all of his winning over the minimum trip, and he may just find this trip stretching him. So it what looks quite a competitive sprint on paper, Twilight Mistress is taken to go out on a winning note.
