    Verdict

An ordinary contest full of exposed sorts and Lilian, although none to reliable, looks to have been found the ideal opening to finally lose her maiden tag. Andrew Balding has enjoyed a successful first season as head of Kingsclere, but he must be frustrated by this First Trump filly, who has flattered only to deceive on more than one occasion. Out of a mare that won a couple of races over sprint trips, she will be worth so much more to breed with should she finally get her head in front. Sweet Finesse cannot be left out of calculations as she has several bits of form which ties her in with the selection. However, she hasn't been seen for a while and does need to prove her well-being. Welsh And Wild has done most of his racing on the All-Weather this year. Lightly raced this term, he does have one decent piece of form to his name (runner-up to Caroubier), and if he could reproduce that effort he must go close here, but Lilian comes here fit and well and looks the logical choice in a poor contest.
