Verdict

Another small field but this is probably the most competitive race on today’s card. A Listed winner in Ireland, Cut The Mustard finally won for Paul Nicholls at the 10th attempt here last month but is facing better opposition in this, though is only 2lb higher whereas Yccs Portocervo is still 6lb higher than his last winning mark and is having a first run since October. JACAMAR has taken well to fences and is only a pound higher than when scoring at Kempton on Boxing Day so gets the nod ahead of Daryl Jacob’s comeback mount Torigni, who won here in December but was only third earlier behind The Edgar Wallace at Market Rasen, though is 4lb better off.

Formwatch

Torigni (FR) 15-8 (11-6) Close 3rd on inside, pushed along turning in, ridden before the last, found no extra run-in, weakened, 3rd of 4, 7 3/4l behind Orrisdale (11-0) at Hereford 2m 5f hcp (3) gd in Jan.

Cut The Mustard (FR) 3-1 (11-12) Held up in rear, headway to track leaders soon after 5 out, ridden and every chance when jumped right 2 out, led next, ridden out, won at Leicester 2m 4f hcp (3) sft in Feb beating Reine Fee (10-6) by 2 1/2l, 5 ran.

Jacamar (GER) 7-1 (10-8) Not always fluent in rear, some headway when pecked 13th, outpaced after 3 out, kept on flat, never on terms, 5th of 9, 7 1/4l behind Celebre D'Allen (10-11) at Warwick 2m 4f hcp (2) gs in Feb.

Yccs Portocervo (FR) 5-2fav (11-2) Tracked leader, not fluent 1st, challenged 10th, led 12th, soon restrained and headed, led again briefly before 4 out, beaten from 2 out, no extra flat, 3rd of 5, 9 1/2l behind Whoshotthesheriff (11-10) at Wetherby 2m 3f hcp (3) gd in Oct.
