In depth

Verdict

A difficult apprentice handicap to sort out and Marajel is given a tentative vote, Way To The Stars and Broken Spur look to be the main threats. John Gosden's three-year-old landed his maiden in great style, comfortably beating the 75 rated Turkish Sultan. The handicapper hasn't been too harsh and a big run can be expected. Way To The Stars disappointed at Goodwood last time, but her previous run behind meditation reads well and gives her strong claims. The Barry Hills stable is going great guns at present and so Broken Spur has to be respected off his current mark, especially with the talented Patrick on board. Rifleman has been doing reasonably well over the jumps and may prove best of the others, but Marajel is open to plenty of improvement and he gets our vote.
