Contractor looks a step ahead of the Handicapper and is taken to make light of his welter burden at the main expense of Excalinor. Terry Mills' improving grey colt won with more in hand than the official verdict suggested at Sandown, where he was ridden for the first time by the useful apprentice Robert Miles, who again takes the reins here. With only a 3lb penalty for that victory, it is no surprise to see him turn out so quickly, before he is reassessed. Excalinor has done little wrong, but as he was beaten off this mark at Sandown last time, it could be the Handicapper has his measure. Formerly with James Fanshaw, Fiveoclock Express has his first outing for Chris Dwyer. Whether the change of scenery will do him good, we will have to wait and see. A winner over this trip at Southwell back in May, Terraquin hasn't been disgraced in better contests since. He will be suited by the likely strong pace and should give a good account, but Contractor has the best form of offer and as he is still on the upgrade, looks a solid choice.
