Although short on a touch of class this remains a very competitive maiden, and of several with claims we will take ASPRO MAVRO to get it right this time. John Gosden's colt was collared close home in a similar contest at Wolverhampton over a furlong further at the beginning of the month, when sent off favourite. He will probably head the market here also, given that he is unexposed and still open to a fair bit of improvement. He has the widest of draws to contend with here, so Richard Mullen will probably drop him in and hope for the breaks, and if you do back him then you'll be hoping for the same. Night Lily handles this surface well and has made the frame three times from four starts on various versions of the Polytrack. Blues Jazz is a half brother to Soto, who won on the Polytrack, and should be suited by this trip, so check the market for any stable confidence on debut. Miss Sophisticat has enough ability to have a say here but she appears to want slower ground in order to show her best, and a better proposition looks to be Layer Cake, who went well in defeat here last time behind Captain Flasheart and the winner has come out and won again since to add at least some strength to the form. Cloudesley races over his optimum trip and should therefore be able to show more than when tried over 10f last time. He should be competitive from this mark, but Aspro Mavro gets the vote.
