In depth

Verdict

Gaudalpin gets the narrowest of votes over the likes of Inescapable, Davids Mark and Start Of Authority. Another Banded race in which consistency is hardly the keyword, but Gaudalpin at least looks to be going the right way and so is selected to gain a second career success. He has put in three fair efforts over the course-and-distance since April and would perhaps have won in another stride when touched off by Dexileos last week. John Egan rides again and he should make a fist of going one better in an uninspiring contest. He had Inescapable behind in sixth the time before last and should maintain that form at least, and although Veneer finished ahead in second, Ernst Oertel's charge has improved while the latter has since disappointed at Southwell. Davids Mark has only ever tried seven furlongs twice before in a long career, while Start Of Authority has a couple of lengths to find with the selection, and so the pendulum swings back to Gaudalpin.
