In depth

Verdict

A cracking contest to finish a grand days racing. This is a good trial for the Supreme Novices at the Festival and with Sh Boom thrown in as well there will be few leaving the Sunbury course early. Chauvinist is certainly going the right way and looks a high class animal in the making, but whether he is as effective over this trip as he is the minimum, remains to be seen. Sh Boom, a dual bumper winner, impressed on his hurdling debut at Uttoxeter. He did well to recover from nearly being brought down at the first flight there, but that didn't affect his jumping and he won with any amount in hand. This is a much stiffer test, but he is open to improvemnet and must not be underestimated. However, Lord Sam looks a bit special and is taken to pass his stiffest test to date. Ubeaten so far in two bumpers and two races over timber, the Supreme Leader gelding still has something to learn about jumping, but this step up in trip is ceratin to suit him better and he is taken to keep his unbeaten record.
