Verdict

The best race on the card by a country mile can go to top weight MAVERICK WAVE (NAP). John Gosden's charge found only Grendisar too good in the Winter Derby on his reappearance and is preferred to the other Godolphin representative Razor Wind. The latter returned from a lengthy absence with a decent second in this grade at Wolverhampton last month with Dance Of Fire back in fifth, though is now 8lb higher than his latest win. Our Channel ran well again last week off today's mark having won at Chelmsford earlier and is not out of this but John Reel's recent good efforts have been over 2m and he's never won over this short a trip before. Russian Realm and Truth Or Dare have both slipped down the weights but will need to step up on recent form to get involved.
