In depth

Verdict

Mercenary Rose made all to land a similar handicap over 6f here in October and though 4lb higher should get into contention again. GRANDFATHER TOM has never run here but has won three times on the all-weather and the same number on Turf. He completed a double in lesser grade last summer but ended the campaign with a good run in a better race at Ascot where he led for a long way. Amplify, who landed a Class 3 handicap at Bath in August, finished just behind in that Ascot race while Helvetian, who has won over 6f here, is better over that trip. Charming Kid has never fulfilled early promise though was beaten less than a length when dropping back to this trip at Newcastle in February.
