Verdict

Finest Of Men can get the better of Themanfromcarlisle, with Scenic Storm and Pharmistice another couple to consider in a wide-open finale. There is more often than not a stand out in hunter-chases, but not on this occasion, and only a tentative vote goes to Finest Of Men who to be fair, bolted up from just three opponents over the course-and-distance a fortnight ago. That success came on much faster ground, but at least it showed him to be in fine fettle and he could well follow up under Tom Greenall. Themanfromcarlisle has been in good form between the flags but was pulled up on his last start over regulation fences and cannot be backed with confidence, while Scenic Storm makes the odd mistake but shaped well at Hexham last time. Pharmistice is a standing dish round here, and has won a couple of hurdle races and a hunter chase in the past. He is certainly not the force of old but it would be no surprise if he were to be placed at least. Eighty Days has more than a year's absence to overcome, but this progressive pointer, trained by Rhona Elliot and partnered by Rose Davidson, should be kept in mind for a similar contest. On this occasion though, preference is for Finest Of Men.
