In depth

Verdict

El Terremoto has won a novice chase but his jumping has let him down the last twice now. Still in contention when falling in the closing stages on both occasions, he has obvious claims with a clear round but TONTO’S SPIRIT (NAP) is preferred. The latter boasts a good strike rate both on the Flat and over hurdles and finished a creditable runner-up to Destrier, rated 138, on his chasing bow at Ayr. Kenneth Stack’s charge gets the vote to go one better. Alizee De Janeiro could only manage third at Perth last time bidding for a hat-trick while Okotoks disappointed back in a handicap last summer having won in novice company at Hexham earlier.
