In depth

Verdict

Hanover Square might be up to the task of defying topweight and is selected over the likes of The River Joker, Diversity and Forest Ivory. There are some really one-paced sorts here who can be quickly ruled out and the winner should come from the short-list mentioned, with Hanover Square taken to add to his stable's excellent record already this season. Nigel Twiston-Davies' gelding dug deep to open his account over the course and distance in February, holding off four rivals including Mini Dare in the straight, and that never-say-die quality will stand him in good stead. The drying ground probably contributed to his defeat more than his six-pound rise at Towcester next time, and with conditions very much in his favour now, Hanover Square can pick them off in the straight. The River Joker was very disappointing at Newcastle last time but does have a victory over track and trip to his name two years ago, and will be plugging on if that recent dismal effort was just a flash in the pan. Diversity ran his best race yet when staying on from off the pace here 11 days ago, having previously shown nothing including when tried over fences at Hereford where he was toiling when unseating. Any money for him in the ring would be interesting, while the veteran Forest Ivory has small claims off what is a handy mark these days. In truth this will not take much winning though and Hanover Square should be up to the task.
