made all, soon clear, ridden and hung left entering final furlong, easily
held up, headway over 6f out, ridden over 4f out, soon weakened
always behind
chased leaders, ridden over 4f out, weakened over 2f out
chased winner, ridden 4f out, hung left over 2f out, soon beaten
in touch, ridden over 6f out, weakened over 3f out
Before The Mast is well thought of and may come back with a bang at the expense of Society affair and L'Orage Lady. Noel Chance's six-year-old has had two outings in the past, the latest coming at Chepstow just less than a year ago. He was odds-on at the Welsh track on the strength of a very promising debut second to Lord Sam at Sandown, but flopped badly, only finishing third. That surely was not his true running, and after a long break, he can now begin to repay the faith his connections have in him. If for some reason he is not fit enough to do himself justice, Society Affair may be the one to capitalise. His stable have already had a bumper debut winner recently and this fellow is sure to know what the game is all about. Of the rest, L'Orage Lady makes most appeal. A promising third at Worcester three months ago, she too has been given time to strengthen up and can win in this grade in the winter for her up and coming trainer. Before The Mast could be a class or two above these though and is taken to make up for lost time.
