In depth

Verdict

Theatre Dancer is the pick in the finale ahead of West Ridge, Mumbles Head and Wantage Road. Although the market is always likely to throw up a springer here, it is hard to escape the claims of Theatre Dancer who has shaped well in defeat on each of his two starts to date, most recently over the course-and-distance in January. He was sent off as favourite that day but was run out of it close home by Pangbourne. That was still a solid effort and he is fancied to go one better here. West Ridge caught a real tartare in the Cheltenham-bound Kicks For Free on his Wincanton bow, and as he was only two-and-a half lengths behind the winner, a big run will be expected and he can give the selection most to do. Mumbles Head opened his account at the first time of asking when successful at Catterick, but a penalty makes his task harder, while Wantage Road is well-bred and hails from a top stable that does well in this sphere, so he is worth noting. For the winner we return to Theatre Dancer who can make experience count.
