In depth

Verdict

Course specialist, Westgate Run looks the percentage call against Backcraft and Strait Talking. The mare was an impressive winner here last year and produced a couple of fair efforts at Perth and Hexham since returning from a four month absence. The Fahey yard are in form at present and it would be no surprise to see her run well. Backcraft is thrown in on old form. The handicapper was perhaps a little mischievous in raising him 5lbs for finishing second to Baby Gee in a race at Perth. That said, his jumping was not foot perfect on that occasion and he will need to have brushed up on the training ground. Strait Talking has been plying his trade in selling grade. His last win was over a very moderate type in Dinofelis and much more is required here. In Good Faith posted his first victory for two years at Cartmel last time out. It looks hard to see him following up. Gospel Song is noted if any market support is seen.
