NEW PERK absolutely loves these marathon contests and is taken to produce a career best and win this, while Chiaro and River Indus are very much respected. The selection is suited by a searching test on good ground or softer. He is 10lbs higher than his best winning mark today, but he rarely runs a bad race and this is the lowest actual racing weight he has carried for quite some time, so he might just be able to cash in. Chiaro has won from a stone higher mark than today's 125 and the handicapper has been very reluctant to let him slip in the weights in what is now a 14-race losing run. He acts on a sound surface and is unexposed over this trip so he has possibilities. River Indus is 7lbs higher than when winning at Sandown in December. He would ideally want softer ground and has yet to convince that he gets a trip beyond 3m 2f. Super Judge stays 3m 4f and has conditions to suit, so if he is ridden to get this longer trip he could enter calculations. L'Aventure has been a standing dish in this sort of contest for years now and retains a fair degree of ability but has never been too reliable and we prefer the claims of New Perk.
