Portrush Ted has been very lightly raced but reappeared with a victory at Ayr and deserves a crack at this higher level. However, along with Kilbricken Storm, Welsh Saint and Young Bull, is also engaged tomorrow at Exeter. All of that quartet are capable of winning a race like this but it’s a long time since Unowhatimeanharry last ran in a handicap and that suggests the Grade 1 winner is maybe not the force of old. SYKES is also in the veteran stage now and was pulled up here in November. However, there were solid efforts at Cheltenham and Chepstow either side of that run and he beat Haydock specialist Silva Eclipse in this last year when 2lb worse off so a repeat could be on the cards.
Unowhatimeanharry 8-1 (11-10) Soon raced in moderate 5th, slight mistake 2nd, closed from 3 out, slight mistake next, chased winner straight, soon no impression and one pace, 2nd of 7, 17l behind Apple's Jade (11-3) at Leopardstown 3m (1) sft in Dec.
Sykes (IRE) 14-1 (11-12) Prominent, led 2nd, headed 5th, led again 2 out, headed before last, no extra, 4th of 11, 21 1/4l behind Eva's Oskar (10-7) at Chepstow 3m hcp (2) hvy in Dec.
Kilbricken Storm (IRE) 25-1 (11-0) Chased leader after 3rd, not fluent 4th, outpaced last bend, soon well held by leaders, 6th of 8, 8 3/4l behind Paisley Park (11-6) at Cheltenham 3m (1) sft in Jan.
Guitar Pete (IRE) 7-1 (10-12) Not that fluent, in touch on outside 2nd, blundered 9th, mistake 12th, struggling 14th, 7th of 10, dist behind Top Ville Ben (11-11) at Wetherby 3m hcp (1) sft in Dec.
