Barshiba sprang a surprise last year however David Elsworth's mare looks to have plenty of competition for the lead and is reluctantly passed over in favour of CHAMPAGNELIFESTYLE and Clowance, with preference for the Barry Hills runner. Allegretto and Playful Act won this for the 'Classic Generation' in 2005 and 2006 and this Montjeu filly can emulate those fillies. She was nibbled at in the betting for the Oaks and wasn't disgraced despite finishing tenth. Her third to Gertrude Bell at Chester in May is perhaps a better indication of her ability and a repeat of that could be good enough to see her go very close. Tinaar is a progressive handicapper but may struggle in this grade, a comment that also applies to Najam who struggled to win an (admittedly decent) Leicester maiden last month. Rosika and Polly's Mark are held by the improving Les Fazzani on their run over course and distance in May and Kevin Ryan's filly is actually better off at the weights today, whilst Lady Jane Digby is a dual-Listed winner but might struggle in this tougher company. Grace O' Malley has a little to find on the ratings despite a Group Three win at Cork (small field, form perhaps underestimated), Clowance is classy but she is starting to look a little trip-less, whilst Barshiba has been there and done it all and this gallant mare is hugely respected as she chases her seventh career success. An open renewal then with nothing leaping off the page, and a chance is taken on Champagnelifestyle.
