Verdict

A competitive renewal of this juvenile event, with Partners In Jazz taken to prove the best of David Barron's duo, while Fox Covert, Venetian Pride and Mind Alert are just three others with claims. Partners In Jazz has been unfortunate to find one too good on each of his three outings to date, and is undoubtedly well treated in relation to topweight Venetian Pride. Giving five pounds to Mark Johnston's charge on his debut here in a qualifier for this competition, and beaten less than a length, he now reopposes on fully 24lbs better terms. He lost his chance at Beverley last time when hampered at the start but still finished second, and the step back up in trip can only be in his favour. Fox Covert went down in a close finish at Catterick but is starting to look exposed, and although having the look of a banker for the frame, is beatable. Mind Alert had his measure when they met at Ripon and is a pound worse off now so strictly on the form book looks just about held. Even so, he will be there or thereabouts, while Newmarket raider Azolla and course and distance winner Wares Home could be in the shake-up. It is too hard to pin your hopes on one entirely, but Partners In Jazz is taken to recoup recent losses.
