      Verdict

      Mark Johnston has won five of the last 10 renewals and Laafiraaq has been competing in tougher maiden races than this. He is preferred to stablemate Barabau but EPEIUS gets the nod stepping up in distance after a close-up fourth at Beverley during the week. Mr Grumpy is out of a prolific mare and can count a Listed winner among his six winning relatives. He makes more appeal than Head High and Heaven Scent of the newcomers.
