      Verdict

With trainer David Nicholls back among the winners again, the consistent and capable Blackheath looks worth chancing in a moderate start to the evening's action and gets the vote ahead of Hit's Only Money and Brut. The last mentioned has solid claims on the pick of his form and again ran well here over the minimum trip last time but he is not as effective over six furlongs so may be booked for a place at best. Ceredig returns to sprinting after a couple of decent efforts over further but remains a maiden, while Coalite has more to do off a 4lb higher mark than when scoring on a softer surface at Ayr last month. Union Jack Jackson has shown improved form on the all-weather of late but has paid the penalty for that at the hands of the handicapper. Jim Goldie's Hit's Only Money belied odds of 33/1 when making a winning return at Ayr last month but may struggle to follow up off his new mark and a safer bet looks to be Blackheath who is taken to resume winning ways.
