In depth

Verdict

TARTAN GUNNA, Dover Street Art and Toll Road all appeal in this maiden, with our vote going to the first named. Mark Johnston's runner literally walked out of the stalls last time and had too much to do to win, but was still well clear of the remainder when coming second, and if having learned to get out of the stalls on terms, can repay those who backed him then. It represented a big improvement from debut, after which he was gelded. Dover Street Art caught the eye in a lower grade Lingfield maiden on debut, when finishing runner up to an odds on favourite. He's Dominic Elsworth's only runner on the card, and having cost 35 thousand Guineas, could repay some of that to connections here. Toll Road is the only debutant in the race, and support for Ed Dunlop's filly should be noted. All the others have had just one run before with the exception of Alimarr who's having her seventh outing, without having looked a likely winner yet. We're cautious about nailing our colours too firmly to the mast in a maiden such as this, but we think it could go the way of Tartan Gunna.
