In depth

Verdict

HAMALKA can land the nightcap at the principal expense of Andaman Sunset and Phoenix Flight. Disqualified undeservedly at Chester, Hamalka gained due compensation next time out and really battled her way into the winners enclosure when the chips appeared down. Though disappointing in previous starts on the artificial tracks, she seems to have grown up since those days. Andaman Sunset would be a welcome winner for retiring trainer, Geoff Wragg. Blinkers replace the cheekpieces that were worn at Warwick. A winner over course-and-distance, he holds very solid claims. Phoenix Flight has been sent off as a warm favourite on all three of his career starts. There was no escaping the fact that his Wolverhampton run was woeful in the extreme. Vineyard doesn't appear at the track too often and found a hat-trick bid beyond him at Sandown. All evidence suggests that absences appear not to be a problem. Hucking Heist won at Lingfield as a juvenile though did not show a lot on seasonal reappearance. Supercast won low grade affairs on the turf during the summer but needs to improve on a poor strike rate on the all-weather. Suzi Spends finished third in an above average handicap over course and distance. She is sure to be staying on stoutly when others have cried enough. Hamalka is the pick.
