Winners of this are often well backed so the market should be scrutinised. Last year's winner Red Avenger came right back to form at Newcastle recently and only has 3lb more to carry this time, though has been done no favours by the draw. Last year's third, Magic City, also appears to have a modest draw but can confirm running with Fort Bastion and Bronze Angel. Basem improved again to beat MUNAASER half-a-length at Sandown but the runner-up, who didn't get the run of the race, is a couple of pounds better off and must have every chance of turning the tables. He'll need luck in-running from stall four but a fast pace will suit. Gm Hopkins won the Royal Hunt Cup but is 6lb higher and the second has let the form down since while Chil The Kite is difficult to catch right. But Ayaar could be interesting if back to his best and both Ayr winner Two For Two and the consistent Donncha can't be left out of calculations.
