Verdict

The Gosdens’ yard sent out last year’s winner so a chance is taken that the progressive handicapper SWEET WILLIAM copes with the testing ground. The latter won with plenty in hand at Newbury a fortnight ago. HMS President scored on soft going over today’s trip at Newmarket in May with Adjuvant not far behind and subsequently finished in front of both Omniscient and Post Impressionist in the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle while He's A Latchico carried over his winning form over hurdles to the Flat at Sandown last month, though is 9lb higher today. Ryan Moore partners Newbury winner Splendent and it was soft underfoot when Mr Curiosity won at Ripon.
