Verdict

CAVALINI is selected to land it after two promising efforts already over obstacles and a win on the all-weather to add further substance to his recent form. Leo's Lucky Star, who beat him at Newton Abbot has subsequently twice scored very easily and looks a smart sort. Both winners in the race Haddaaf and Darfen face tough tasks under their penalties. Haddaaf was well beaten last time out when his jumping left him down. He returns here after a 107 day break and has the size and scope to defy his penalty. Darfen landed a punt for connections when scoring at Stratford but was far too keen next time out. Carmond is an interesting hurdling recruit. A listed winner in Slovakia, he returned from 10 months off the course to make an excellent UK debut, doing his best work in the closing stages. Well-beaten last time, it is unknown what the reason for that was, despite the fact his rider reported that he hung right down the straight. Maslak, a useful handicapper on his day, shaped with some promise on his hurdling debut but more will be needed here. Cavalini has the form in the book and looks the one to beat in receipt of weight from the penalised contenders.
