Oarsman is a nicely bred type and can put his race fitness to good use today. Thannaan and well-bred debutante Royal Bloom are fancied to provide the selection with the most to think about. The last named hails from a yard that never rush with their juveniles but this filly is bred for speed and she has to be an interesting contender at this time of year. She will be better for a run and it will be interesting to see where she goes from here. The form of Thannaan's second start at Newbury last season has worked out well and he is another that should be kept on the right side. It is noteworthy that he comes here rather than go to Beverley later in the week, so a cautious monitoring of the betting market is advised. However, Oarsman has all the right ticks on paper and is expected to be a different proposition now that he has a seasonal run behind him. A half-brother to the classy Lateen Sails, the Roger Charlton-trained gelding just got tired on his reappearance here three weeks ago. But, as the horse that finished second in that race has subsequently bolted up in a maiden, the portents look god for Oarsman to make his third visit to a racecourse a lucky one.
