Despite his penalties Carandrew is best in on official BHB ratings and has to be respected in this seller. However, the 10-year-old showed no worthwhile form on his first outing since leaving Martin Pipe and may be best watched. Former stablemate Carroll's Dove has shown little sign of ability in two starts in bumper company and, even under Tony McCoy, makes limited appeal even in this lowly grade. Devote is entitled to strip fitter for his recent reappearance at Taunton (first outing in nine months) especially on ground that should suit but the selection is Beyond Control. Admittedly the Paul Nicholls-trained gelding has failed to complete in two starts over fences this season but the return to hurdles could rekindle the son of Supreme Leader and, on ground that is ideal, he looks worth a bet.
