In depth

Verdict

Richard Phillips has had a few winners in recent weeks so Gentle Guru has to be considered back on turf having been running well on the Fibresand of late and is not badly treated but a better bet looks to be QUASI CONGAREE, who can follow up his recent Lingfield success with Rio Royale rated the main danger. The selection has gone up 5lbs for his Lingfield win but Ian Wood's gelding ran well on the only occasion that he has raced on ground softer than good on turf and the rise in the weights may not stop him from following up. Jim Boyle's Step It Up is seemingly attractively weighted but would probably want faster ground, while Halsion Chancer has done most of his racing on the Polytrack and would also want the ground to be quicker. Any market support for Straboe would be of interest but he needs to improve and of more interest may be Marcus Tregoning's Todber, who is bred to handle the ground and may improve for racing on this surface. Rio Royale is similarly bred to appreciate the testing conditions underfoot and Amanda Perrett has her string in good form so he has to be respected but preference is for Quasi Congaree.
