In depth

Verdict

Blue Torpedo is fancied to deliver on the promise shown by him last season and he gets the nod over Bobby Charles and Magic Sting, who both come into the race in good heart. A similar comment applies to Tricky Venture, who is holding his form well and has solid claims if he can transfer his All Weather form to turf. There is little reason to suspect he will not and he can easily make the frame with a clear run. Bobby Charles has really got his act together well lately and is still unexposed. However, he is now 4lb higher than when wining at Thirsk and has more to find. So too does Magic Sting, who picks up a 6lb penalty this afternoon. He showed good battling qualities last time and should make another bold bid. However, he may find the concession of 15lb to Blue Torpedo too much of a burden at this stage and Amanda Perett's charge is too hard to ignore on these terms. The weight-for-age allowance gives the son of Rahy a rock-solid chance of getting off the mark for the season and he is expected to go on to better things from here.
