In depth

Verdict

Ofarel D'airy is hard to oppose, and should have little more than an exercise canter, with Grandpops Joy perhaps the one to chase the selection home. On all known form, there can only be one winner if staying upright, and that is Paul Nicholls's French import Ofarel D'airy who was good enough to finish fifth in a Grade 2 hurdle at Cheltenham on her fourth career start in November. The dam won over fences in France, and this five-year-old, owned by Andy Stewart, will hopefully have inherited her ability. It is hard to fancy any of his four rivals here seriously, but the runner-up may well turn out to be Grandpops Joy, despite the fact that he was tailed off on his chase bow at Fakenham last month. He was put straight over the bigger obstacles without being tried over timber first though and lacks experience. Hibernian showed a glimmer of ability on the odd occasion last term, but this is safely left to Ofarel D'airy whose price will no doubt reflect his chance.
