In depth

Verdict

A paltry five face the starter and QUINZ is the preference this afternoon. Richard Johnson has elected to side with the Kempton hurdle winner rather than Estates Recovery, and while the rider has got it wrong before, he probably hasn't on this occasion. The gelding was raised 21lb for that success at Kempton which pretty much ruled him out at Aintree where he ran a very moderate race even allowing for the handicapper's slight. He can start over at this discipline. Estates Recovery will need to improve his fencing if his recent Ludlow effort is any guide as will Persian Run, who was well beaten over course-and-distance. Landenstown Star seems to appreciate a softer surface whilst Cashel Blue is a recent winner over hurdles at Newton Abbot against lesser opposition.
