In depth

Verdict

Welsh Saint was a short-priced favourite on his hurdling bow at Huntingdon in May but was well beaten when falling. He has a bit to prove now and CAT TIGER (NAP) makes more appeal. A smart chaser in his native France, he failed to find an extra gear on his UK debut at Worcester but that was still a fair effort with the first three pulling well clear and conditions today will be more in his favour. Paul Nicholls also runs the unexposed Saint De Reve while Rufio is another expected to make a hurdler. Unwin Vc was placed twice around here last season having earlier won a bumper at the track so can’t be ignored.
