DAWN APPROACH, unbeaten after seven runs including three Group 1's, is the logical choice. He's the obvious form pick having been a very impressive winner of the 2000 Guineas and the only doubt has to be his stamina, or lack of it. There were similar doubts about his own sire New Approach despite him being by Derby winner Galileo and he had no problems wining this race but it's also the lack of a stand-out rival, with not a single Group 1 winner amongst them, that suggests Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning will be landing their second Epsom Derby. Aidan O'Brien is once again mob handed and it hasn't always been the stable's first choice that has done best so Battle Of Marengo, unbeaten in his last five though none at the highest level, isn't a certainty to beat any of his four stablemates home with 2000 Guineas sixth Mars likely to prove best of them. Andre Fabre scored with Pour Moi in 2011, his first Derby winner after many years of trying. He's represented here by Ocovango, who is undoubtedly improving but will need to be after a narrow success in a Group 2 at Saint-Cloud where he's run all of his races. The German raider Chopin has a fine middle-distance pedigree so the fact that he was able to win a Group 3 at Krefeld over 1m1f by 8l speaks volumes. It's a very long time since Yorkshire won the Derby but it was a long time since they won the Grand National so the Dante winner Liberterian won't be running for the fun of it while those looking for an outsider with a chance could do worse than side with Galileo Rock, who has been performing with credit over trips too short.
