Verdict

Bear Story won this a year ago and has been competing in Group company all summer. He finished over six lengths behind Aikhal when the Ballydolyle colt easily won a Curragh Group 3 in June but the latter has been unable to make the transition to Group 2 company the last twice. Layfayette had a brilliant early-season campaign but has a Group 2 penalty to carry and HANNIBAL BARCA was well beaten when last seen in the Irish Derby. Joseph O'Brien's charge was having only his fifth start that day after winning a Curragh Group 3 so should have plenty more to offer. Cairde Go Deo finished third in the Irish Oaks before taking on older horses in a Cork Group 3 and failing to hold Rumbles Of Thunder. She looks certain to go well while Ralph Beckett is looking for some black type for the improving handicapper State Occasion, an impressive winner at York last month.
