        Verdict

        Bayan didn't quite manage to score for Brian Meehan last summer but ran some very good races and didn't take long to get off the mark over hurdles for new connections. He looks certain to be in the shake-up but the vote goes to SPIRIT OF CONCORDE. Dermot Weld's charge, runner-up at Navan a year ago on his only previous start, was expected to make a winning return at Gowran but found Curley Bill too strong. Like most of his stable's runners he'll improve for that outing and should go one better. Energize showed promise for Richard Hannon last summer and made a fair debut for Tommy Carmody over a trip too short earlier this month while Ferrycarrig, who is related to a couple of classic-placed performers from Jim Bolger's yard, has the look of a horse who could do well this season.
