Verdict

It is not uncommon for horses to improve vastly after their first outings and as Hawk Flyer was always going to find a mile on the sharp side on his debut, he is taken to know a lot more about what is required this time around. The son of Silver Hawk is just preferred over Mephisto, with Beau Artiste another to consider with Darryll Holland booked for the ride. Hawk Flyer was not given a hard time of things when his chance had gone at York earlier in the month but he still comfortably held some modest rivals to hold on for second at the finish. The extra two furlongs will see him in a better light today and he is taken to put in an improved performance today. Mephisto, who has already proved himself at this sort of trip is the obvious one to capitalise if Hawk Flyer fails to deliver.
