In a very tricky maiden to solve we keep faith that John Gosden will get off to his customary fast start to the turf season and give his newcomer AFRICAN WAVE the vote ahead of fellow debutant Safwaan and the Barry Hills runner Cultivar. Related to plenty of winners including the high-class sprinter at two years Land Of Dreams the selection represents some powerful connections. He should be capable of winning over this trip and further and he looks the stable first string on jockey bookings. Stablemate Bullwhip would also have claims based on his bloodline but the suspicion is he'll be better over further however his jockey is riding well at present. Safaan is also well bred, with Group and two-year-old winners in his family tree. He also represents top connections so a big run is in the offing. Cultivar is also bred in the purple and ran a very promising debut before not being able to build on that next time. It will be interesting to see how he's trained on and a market check is advised. Tom Dascombe sends out Raktiman and his pedigree looks ideal for this trip so is respected but in a tough race where any number have chances African Wave can score for a yard who do well early in the season.
