A very competitive opener and those who follow stats could do worse than side with WAFFLE. Jeremy Noseda's four-year-old was just touched off in this race last year and looks to have been laid out to score this time. A recent pipe-opener will have him spot on, the ground is ideal for him and he has slipped a couple of pounds in the weights. Added to that is his draw, for the last two winners have come from stall 16, with the 2005 runner-up also coming from there. Harry Patch looks progressive and at least has a draw towards the far rail, with conditions to suit. He is feared along with Cheveton, who is in cracking form and well drawn but will have to find more to win at this level. Masta Plasta has his ground and is another worthy of the short-list.
