In depth

Verdict

Honan came up against the much improved The Local at Leicester last week, and was clear second best, he can go one better this afternoon, Caliban and Rival Bidder may be the ones to chase him home. Martin Pipe's six-year-old looked a big danger to that handicap good thing at the second last and stayed on well to finish clear of the remainder. none of today's rivals stand out as being well treated and Honan should be capable of landing this modest affair. Caliban is from a yard in good form and wasn't beaten far by the prolific Royal Hector last time. That winner, and the third have boosted the form since so he is one to keep on the right side. Rival Bidder ran no sort of race last time, but had previously finished an excellent third in a competitive event at Catterick. He does look a little high in the weights today, but may still be capable of reaching the frame. Alan King's Halland is another to warrant respect, but Honan is the most consistent of these and is taken to oblige.
