In depth

Verdict

Kylian didn’t enjoy much luck in-running when sharing favouritism with BIG EVS in the Molecomb at Goodwood and the extra furlong was a legitimate excuse for his run in the Gimcrack at York. Mick Appleby’s colt also disappointed at the Ebor meeting but that was against older and more streetwise performers and, back up against his own age group again today, the impressive Windsor Castle winner can pick up the winning thread again and confirm form with York winner Inquisitively in the process. Irish challenger Valiant Force also won at Royal Ascot, landing the Norfolk ahead of Malc. He never figured in the Prix Morny at Deauville last month but that was over an extra furlong. Zoulu Chief has won a couple of competitive nurseries over 6f recently and his York victory has been franked but he was well beaten on his only previous run over the minimum. Flora Of Bermuda beat a subsequent Group 3 winner on soft ground at Goodwood and didn’t stay 6f at York while the three-times winner Graceful Thunder ran well again at Longchamp just over two weeks ago.
