ALCALDE is capable of better and is narrowly preferred here to Dangerous Midge, Prince Of Johanne and Geneva Geyser. Mark Johnston doesn't have a great record at the meeting as he seems to target his horses more at Goodwood earlier in the year. However we are yet to see the best of this son of Hernando and he is now dropped back to a more realistic trip at this stage of his career. He ran well for Joe Fanning on their only other run together and a big effort is expected today. Dangerous Midge is progressing well and his third to Point Of Light in July has since been franked; he cannot be dismissed at all. Geneva Geyser has more experience than most and he ran well in defeat at Newbury last time out, Muraweg has been given a four-month break since a fair York run in May, whilst Prince Of Johanne has now won three on the bounce and is a progressive and nicely-bred individual. Thin Red Line drops in trip which may suit although his latest win did come on a stiffer track, Lady Artemisia drops in class but has a little to prove over this trip, whilst Presbyterian Nun ran beyond expectations last time out at York and Frankie Dettori looks an interesting jockey booking. Dark Prospect is worthy of a mention as well; he has not been the easiest to place but he tends to run his race and his trainer has a good record at the track and at this meeting. Not an easy race to assess.
