Percy's Pearl lost no caste in defeat on his handicap debut behind The Coires at Salisbury last month on only his second start and is taken to reverse the form over today's longer trip with Babe Maccool rated the best of the remainder. The selection is bred to appreciate middle distances and should improve for this longer trip and granted natural improvement, David Elsworth's colt looks the percentage call. John Gosden's Maraakeb is gradually slipping to a fair mark and his trainer John Gosden traditionally does well with his runners at this meeting. Gary Moore's Cavallini and Walter Swinburn's Miss Provvidence are less exposed than most of these and have to be respected along with the Clive Cox-trained Ionian Spring, although he would probably want a softer surface. Pugilist is probably better than he showed at Chester last time and is another worthy of a mention but a bigger threat is likely to come from Babe Maccool, who also disappointed in the same Chester race but should do better on this more galloping track. Percy's Pearl has a progressive profile though and is taken to resume winning ways.
