    Verdict

Wide open with many a chance but SPANISH CITY ran a fine race over this specialist trip when a close-up sixth in the Victoria Cup at Ascot last month and has been left on an unchanged mark for the run. The move up to 7f after a gelding operation appears to have wrought notable improvement from the Varian inmate and it will be disappointing if he does not build on that Ascot performance here with trip and conditions to suit. Almoreb can arguably be thought to have under-performed on recent starts in that he hasn't hit the winner's circle as much as anticipated but he remains a useful handicapper on a workable mark. Manton Grange is of interest if ready on this seasonal reappearance and it would not be a surprise to see both Eljaddaaf and Zodiakos go well at a price.
