Verdict

Magna Grecia's victory in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket threw up as many questions as answers. There was no doubting his eventual superiority over 66/1 chance King Of Change but the pair looked to have the best of the draw and Skardu, the Craven Stakes winner, stayed on strongly on the opposite side of the track. The winner had beaten Phoenix Of Spain by a head in the Futurity at Doncaster but the latter was almost two lengths behind TOO DARN HOT in the Champagne Stakes on the same track earlier. John Gosden's charge was ante-post favourite for the first colt's classic but had to miss the race and didn't return until the Dante, where he couldn't get past Telecaster. The Dewhurst winner has the combination of blistering pace and stamina required for this and can return to winning ways. Decrypt looked smart when landing a Cork conditions race though this is a huge step up in grade while Shelir came with a very strong run to land a Listed contest over 7f here earlier this month.
