In depth

Verdict

ST MARK'S BASILICA stayed on strongly into second on his debut over track and trip and started favourite for the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes on a return visit. He never really got into contention there but takes a massive drop in class and can get off the mark. His stable also run Duke Of Mantua and Prince Of Verona and the latter, a $950,000 son of American Pharoah, is definitely one to keep an eye on. Loch Lein was always travelling nicely when a close third over 7f here last month and with improvement guaranteed should get into contention while the likes of Baseman and Ecliptical are others to keep an eye on.
