Helvic Dream had been beaten three times by Broome before beating Aidan O'Brien's charge a short-head in this last year when the ground was very testing. Unless there's significant rain the form should be reversed as the runner-up subsequently won the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. Ryan Moore, however, rides the latter yard's High Definition, who has twice seen the back of Lafayette in recent runs here. Mac Swiney had his big day in the 2,000 Guineas here last year, one of three victories on the track, though never really repeated that sort of form. Alenquer, from a yard operating at an almost 50 per cent strike-rate, won Royal Ascot's King Edward VII Stakes over 1m4f but is better over this trip and beat Lord North in the Winter Derby at Lingfield in February with the latter going on to Meydan where he dead-heated in the Dubai Turf, a race he won the previous year. The globe-trotting Cox Plate and Saratoga Derby winner STATE OF REST went to France at the beginning of the month and beat a high-class field in the Group 1 Prix Ganay. He's probably still improving and gets the nod to complete a four-timer.
